Ingredients

2/3 C flour
2 T whole wheat flour
2 T sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 T butter
1 egg
1 T milk
2 medium apples
1-1/2 C tart cherries
1/4 C sugar
2 T water
1 T cornstarch
1 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon
Directions
1. For biscuit topping, ina medium bowl, combine flours, 2 T sugar and baking pwder. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In a separate bowl, combine egg and milk. Set aside.
2. For filling, in a medium saucepan, combine apples, cherries, 1/4 cup sugar and 1 T water. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes or until apples are almost tender, stirring occasionally. Combine cornstarch with the remaining water; add to fruit. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly. Transfer hot filling to a 1-quart casserole. Place on baking sheet to catch any spills.
3. Add the egg/milk mixture all at once to the dry ingredients, stirring just until moistened. Immediately spoon topping into 4 mounds atop hot filling. Stir together the 1 tsp sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over dough.
4. Bake in 400 degree F oven for about 15 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Serve warm.
