Ingredients

    Flour, white, 2 cup
    Baking Powder, 3 tsp
    Salt, .5 tsp
    Margarine, hard, 16 tsp
    Milk, 1%, .75 cup

Directions

In a mixing bowl, mix together flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder and salt. Add 1/3 cup of shortening and cut in until the mixture looks like corse crumbs. You can use two knives or a pastry blender to do this. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add milk all at once. Using a fork, stir just until the dough clings together.

On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 10 - 12 strokes. Pat or roll the dough until it's 1/2" thickness. Cut the dough with a 2 1/2 inch round cookie cutter or glass. Dipp the cutter in flour between cuts. Transfer the cut biscuits to an UNgreased baking sheet. Bake in a 450° oven for 10 - 12 minutes. Serve immediately.

Makes 10

Variation: if you're in a hurry, make drop biscuits by increasing milk to 1 cup. Combine ingredients as above but do not knead. Use a nive to push dough from a tablespoon onto teh baking sheet. Bake as directed. This method gives you 12 biscuits rather than 10. The nutritional info for the recipe is NOT calculated according to this variation.

    Incredible!
This is almost exactly like the biscuit recipe I make. It's great for kids to play with (like Play-Doh) because they can eat it raw, and it won't hurt them. You can also add cinnamon, raisins, cheese, or herbs to this recipe for a special treat! - 9/11/07
