Introduction

I have tried for years to find a good home made granola bar recipe. This one is the best. It is easy and very forgiving to any alterations you may want to make. You could even add protein powder to this as a breakfast or post workout snack. If you add a lot you may need to add a little extra liquid to keep it from crumbling. Ingredients

    Ingredients:

Steel Cut Oats, dry, 2.5 cup
Kellogg's Corn Flakes Cereal, 2 cup
    Coconut, toasted, 8 oz
Sunflower Seeds, without salt, 1 cup, hulled
    Flax Seed, 4 tbsp
    Almonds, 1 cup, sliced
    Raisins, 1 cup, packed

Spices (total 2tsp, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cloves -What ever spices you like, or use vanilla instead)
    Brown Sugar, 1 cup, unpacked
    Butter, salted, .5 cup
    Honey, .5 cup
    Maple Syrup, .5 cup

Directions

Line a 12x12 or 9x13 baking dish with plastic wrap. Set aside. If you have a 12x12 it makes peices nice and uniform. Otherwise use the other, it works just as well.

Mix first 7 (dry) ingredients in a bowl (Substitutions can be made = Corn flakes for Rice Crispies, Almonds for walnuts or pecans, any chopped dry fruit can replace the raisins. This recipe is very forgiving)

Add the last 4 (wet) ingredients to a large pot, I used a 5 quart stew pot. Add spices. Heat over medium high heat until butter and sugars melt and bubble. Add all dry ingredients stir constantly to avoid burning or over browning about 7 minutes. Turn down heat if you see it is browning to fast.

Scoop entire batch into the ready baking pan. Pat down with spatual/spoon until close to level all over. Cover with more plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Using the heal of your hand or any heavy flat bottomed item pack the mixture as much as you can. Use all your weight if you can. If this is not packed tightly it will crumble when you try to cut it.

Let cool at room temp if you have time, if not place in fridge. Once cool you can flip it over and it should fall right out of the pan (because you lined it and it can't stick to the bottom). Cut into 2x2 squares, they may not be exact but it's close.

Wrap each peice in plastic wrap and enjoy.

Serving Size: Makes about 24 two inch peices
