1 3/4 buttermilk* see tips
Tips
This recipe's nutritional information is created NOT using buttermilk, but 1% milk and lemon juice as a substitute. To do so, place 1 3/4 TBSP of lemon juice into a 2 cup measuring cup. Add 1 3/4 cups of 1% milk. Let set a few minutes. I have these on hand but not buttermilk...also saves a bit on calories and cost. However if you want traditional soda bread...use the buttermilk! Enjoy!
Directions
Oil a baking sheet and preheat oven to 425 degrees
Sift together flour, salt and baking soda
make a well in the flour mixture and pour most of the buttermilk in. Mix with hands. Dough should be soft but not too wet. Use remaining buttermilk if needed.
Flour a surface for kneading and gently knead dough. Shape into 8" circle and place on oiled baking sheet. Cut a cross into the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
Bake 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. Transfer to wire rack to cool slightly. Serve warm.
