Introduction

A tasty and simple way to shake up your broccoli :) A tasty and simple way to shake up your broccoli :)
Number of Servings: 6

Ingredients

    1 Tablespoon of Olive Oil
    * any cooking oil will do
    2 Cloves of Garlic
    2 Tablespoons of chopped shallots
    * if you don't have shallots try another
    type of onion like scallions
    3 cups of fresh broccoli (about 1 and a half
    bunches)
    1 cup of water chestnuts (try using a can of
    waterchesnuts... but be sure to drain them)
    3 tablespoons of water (or so)
    1 tablespoon of fresh basil (or use 1
    tablespoon of basil paste or one dried
    teaspoon of basil)

Directions

1) Chop broccoli into bite sized pieces.
2) Heat oil in large frying pan.
3) Add shallots and garlic and cook for about 1
minute.
4) Add broccoli to pan.
5) Add water to pan.
6) Allow to cook for 2 minutes.
7) Add waterchestnuts and basil.
8) Allow to cook for another 2 minutes or until
broccoli is at your desired tenderness.

    I made this and would make again, very tasty. I added more garlic and put some fresh spinach in as well. Served over brown rice with mushrooms and onions...yummy! - 8/21/07

    Incredible!
    Made this tonight and really enjoyed it. Nice change of pace recipe for broccoli--easy and quick. I did add about 3 times the amount of water over the last couple minutes of cooking--because I prepared in a 12" cast iron skillet. Came out perfectly!
    Leftovers were still great the next night, too!
