Introduction

Aunt Eleanor Aunt Eleanor
Number of Servings: 16

Ingredients

    6.5 cups flour
    2 cups water
    0.25 cup butter
    1 medium egg
    2 packages yeast
    0.25 cups sugar
    2 lbs. turkey breast
    0.50 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tsp salt or seasoned salt
    3 cups chopped cabbage
    1 cup diced onion

Directions

Mix 2 packages yeast, 2 cups water and 0.25 cup sugar in a bowl and let stand until frothy and bubbly. Add egg, 1 cup flour and melted butter. Mix. Add remaining flour 1 cup at a time until mixture resembles elastic bread dough. Let dough rise until double or refigerate in a large bowl overnight. Punch down and roll out to oblong shape. Divide into 16 equal-sized portions.

Brown turkey meat, and onion. Add salt, pepper, and cayenne (or other small amount of favorite spicy seasoning). Mix. Add 0.5 cup water and the cabbage. Simmer 15 to 20 minutes. Put an equal portion of the meat-cabbage mixture in the center of each of the 16 dough pieces. Seal the dough around the cabbage-meat portion and bake at 350 deg F for 20 minutes. Remove and cool completely.

It's important to add salt and spicy flavors to the turkey meat. If you use hamburger, you can omit the cayenne pepper as spiciness adds depth to poultry. The calorie content will likely increase with beef.

    Very Good
This sounds delicious, though I will use Tofurkey instead...and I put Cayenne in everything so this is right up my alley! What is this Polish, btw? Just wondering. Thanks! - 11/8/09
