To all the Nay-Sayers: I'd almost decided to NOT try this recipe due to negative comments. Made it last night, by the recipe (did not drain fish) and it was incredible. My DH who dislikes tuna or salmon loaf said it was delicious and even ate a second portion. Just try it!!! - 5/25/10

After adding all listed ingredients my loaf-mix was crazy-dry. Then I realized, hey! there's no binding agent in this recipe! Added an egg and some milk to keep it from turning to dust in the oven, but in the end it was still too crumbly for my definition of a "loaf." Tasted great w/tomato slices. - 4/11/07

I've often made salmon loaf but have never tried a mixture of the two; salmon and tuna. Like Mom before me, I used a lg. can salmon, 2-3 slices fresh bread crumbs, 1 egg, seasonings of choice, and chopped onion and/or celery. This served 4-6 people; always good. - 4/11/09

It works. It made more than 6 servings though - maybe 8 large? I guess the 2 tbsp of oil is what kept it together. It was better than I expected! I might add a tbsp of eggbeaters next time. - 3/1/08

All you people screaming about binders - have you tried it as is? RETRACMJ has and says it WORKS. I will do the original version, maybe it doesn't need any further flavours as fish should not be swamped. Classical fish recipes are a delicate taste. Please nix the garlic with everything trend. - 4/11/09

I made it for my lunch and my 17 and 21 year old daughters were curious about what I was making. They surprised me by asking if they could taste it. Next thing I know I'm sharing the dish with them. Even my husband liked it and he has to be the fussiest person on earth. - 3/2/08

This was delicious. My great grandmother always made fish patties for us and I never knew her recipe. This taste almost as good as hers. Loved this recipe, will make again.
**I don't understand the negativity. If the recipe is not your cup of tea, move on to something that is! Ppl shouldn't be rude

I make something similar all the time that I call salmon loaf. Drain the pink salmon, add bread crumbs, 1 egg, spices, lil mayo, maybe mustard, garlic. Mix up like a meat loaf, put small glass pan and bake at 350 for 40 mins. Husband loves it too. Economical , tasty, good for ya. - 3/1/08

You don't need a binder if you don't drain the fish. Use the juice in the cans, and it will bind together and be plenty moist. - 5/26/10

Sounds fine to me. We'll probably eat it "fish taco" style with corn tortillas and add chopped cilantro, diced tomatoes and raw onions as toppings. GREAT & HEALTHY IDEA !! Thanks for the nice recipe & new cooking idea. - 4/11/09

I agree with LISAPEPPAN about adding several spices and some kind of binder. I appreciate the submission however as I would have never thought of a fish loaf.
I wouldn't mind trying a light yogurt and dill sauce on the side when cooking is finished. Good recipe to be creative with!

You need to drain the can of salmon and the cans of tuna, then add 4 tbsp lemon juice or use 2 large lemons to add flavor to the salmon and tuna. - 7/22/10

I made this with some milk and butter and not the olive oil. I covered the dish. It came out really soft and yummy....hubby looked at it before he tasted it and was prepared not to like it. He ended up eating more than half of it. Will definitely be making it again. - 5/24/10

You're right, Actionjackson44, a binder is missing. When I give this recipe a try, I'll be adding a large free-range egg, some lemon juice, paprika, chives, and about a teaspoon of finely minced garlic. Might substitute oat bran for the bread crumbs. Tomato slices sound like a great addition. - 3/1/08

I tried a variation of this for dinner last night. Pureed some salmon filets I had to mix in with the canned tuna, un-drained. Used a different set of spices, and stuck with the bare bones recipe... Used saltines instead of wheat bread, and mixed in some shredded sharp cheddar cheese before baking. - 9/2/10

Everyone should know you mix the ingredients in the bowl and add them to the pan. That is the way you would do any meat loaf. I do agree though it does need a binder. I would probably put two eggs and maybe some fat free canned milk in it and of course adjust the portions for the added ingredient - 4/11/09

I am making it now, with fish packed in water, did not drain, omitted the cilantro as I didn't have any on hand, used a handful of fresh basil, which I processed with the breadcrumbs. It came out very moist and flavorful, but I added too much salt. Ate it with l sauce. would make a great fish sandwich. - 7/22/10

Oh my Word! This was so easy and wonderful!
Being a Southern Californian, I needed my spices so I used Old Bay, Herbes de provence and a few dashes of pepper. I did leave out the oil. It was so flavorrful, I almost ate a third of it standing at the stove! May add some mayonnaise next time.

but it sounds incomplete. If I actually decide to make it I'll have to work with what little is stated in the recipe and add ingredients to make it work as a loaf. That of course will alter the calories. So, I think before posting on the site should have checked her ingredients or made it first. - 3/1/08

I want to go and make that RIGHT NOW - but I don't have any salmon :(
So I need to go shopping tomorrow for canned salmon - guess what's for dinner tomorrow?
Avocado in lemon juice, salad leaves, broccoli, tomato, cucumber, roasted sweet potato. I reckon that should do the trick!
