Ingredients
-
5 apples, peeled, cored and chopped
4 tbsp brown sugar
3 tsp cinnamon
Directions
*Place the apple pieces in a large pot and cook on medium heat.
*Add a little water to the pot if it looks dry.
*Once all the apples are soft (about 20-30 mins) mash the apples.
*Add the brown sugar and cinnamon and stir.
Notes: I like to put this apple sauce on top of pancakes instead of syrup.
For a tasty desert: warm up the apple sauce and put ice cream on top or graham cracker crumbs :)

60 plus years of home made applesauce. We never used brown sugar, some times cinnamon, and some times not. We had our own orchard of apples, starting with Summer Transparent in July and ending with Winesap in October. Plus canned and frozen for winter. Used in place of jams or jellies, on pancakes. - 12/19/13

I made the applesauce out of necessity since i didnt want to open a lg jar of sauce for the small amount i needed for the recipe i was making. It was well worth making the sauce. Im covinced its better than store bought and will continue to make it. its a 5 star recipe - 11/19/11

then why'd you give it only 1 star! ;) I'm sure that was just a mistake.

This has been a staple for me since I started an internship in Early Childhood Education...little ones love to help mash and stir. For the holidays, I add Cinnamon Red Hots, since it's about the only time I can find them. Really kicks it up a notch. And, it adds color. Splenda brown sugar's good - 12/19/14

No need for sugar! We use Granny Smith and Gala with a couple Red and Golden Delicious for a hint of sweet. We use water when cooked on the stove and simmer until the water is gone -- keeps the apples from scorching. We make this at Thanksgiving and Christmas and add just a touch of nutmeg. - 12/19/17

i'm not keen on cinnamon, and don't like sweet food.
I peel and roughly chop an apple, add shredded flesh from an orange or similar (size and amount depends on amount of apple).
Add juice of orange, and a wee bit of water if necessary. Cook, and mash.
Add savoury tones or sweet, to taste, eg herb - 12/19/14

I have made apple sauce for decades, last fall I made 6 batches of 4 gallons each, and not one needed any sugar. I like the taste of the apples not the sweet and other spices when I eat applesauce alone. The sugar in this recipe makes a serving very small, 1/4 cup, without sugar 1 cup is 110 c. - 12/19/14

I just core apples and simmer them, stirring occasionally until sauce - no sugar at all, nor cinnamon - then put in jars and boil until sealed, if I'm doing a bushel. The right kind of apples don't need sugar - diabetic, and the carb count of the apples is more than sufficient reason to omit sugar. - 12/19/14
