Introduction

This is the easiest and best way to grill a chicken! The meat is incredibly tender and moist with no added fat! This is the easiest and best way to grill a chicken! The meat is incredibly tender and moist with no added fat!
Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

    1 whole chicken
Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herb Seasoning
1/2 can light beer (You can also use root beer or lemon-lime soda, but beer tastes best!)
    Non-stick cooking spray

Directions

Remove any giblets from the chicken.
Open the beer and pour half of it out. Sprinkle Mrs. Dash inside the cavity of the chicken. Rub the seasoning all over the outside as well.
Line a baking sheet with foil, then set the beer can in the middle. Place the chicken on top of the can so it stands up.
Grill on low for 2-3 hours (or bake at 300 degrees F), until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.
Rotate the chicken halfway through cooking.
Let the chicken rest for 10 minutes, then carve the wings, legs and breasts off the can. It should be very easy, as it should almost fall off the bone. Peel the skin off and enjoy!

just made it today and the chicken is so tasty, I will certainly make this again and experiment with different seasoning. I also placed carrots and shallots in the bottom of the tray and they tasted fantastic as well. - 2/3/13

We used a southwest blend seasoning and put some chopped onion and garlic in the beer can. YUM!!!!!!!!!!! The chicken fell off the bone and was so moist. It's just as easy to do 2 chickens vs 1 and then there are leftovers to freeze for future meals. - 7/6/09

This is so delicious!!! The chicken is so succulent. Annettemom has included a great picture!!! I found a shiny steel beer can holder at Walmart that helps to keep the chicken in an upright position. We did it on the grill but I'd like to try it in the oven, too!!!! - 5/25/09

This is so good and easy. Mine took less time to cook but was moist and tender. This makes the best leftovers for stir fry, salad, or sandwiches. - 6/19/13

Easy and delicious recipe! I used Penzey's Northwoods seasoning rather than Mrs. Dash, salt and pepper, a little EVOL and half a can of beer. Checked for thigh temperature to pass that magic 180 mark and pulled it from the grill. Great dinner with a little salad and lots of left overs. A Keeper! - 5/8/15

This was awesome!!! Everyone enjoyed it. I had it on for about an hour and a half and it was so juicy. For spices I used 1 tbsp of kosher salt, 1 tbsp of pepper, and 1 tbsp of dried thyme. I could have used less salt, but it was pretty darn good! :) - 7/19/15

If you have one on the can racks that they sell for this use, you can put practically any liquid (such as wine or broth) in a metal or glass cup in the chicken and cook the same way. Also, it works best if you create a "plug" out of an onion, carrot or potato and put it in the neck before cooking. - 1/31/18

I actually have a special thing that looks like the tube part of a bundt pan that is silverstone-covered. I marinate the chicken in Italian dressing first, than mist it wit water and dressing during grilling time. It is delicious. - 8/28/17
