Great base recipe! I added carrots and potatoes while halving the cabbage to use up what I had on hand. I seasoned with black pepper, salt, and Penzey's Old World Seasoning mix. Going in the keeper box. I used a 14oz can of stewed tomatoes and an 8oz can of tomato sauce. - 3/27/13

Pretty good. It seems to need a lot of salt and I think my head of cabbage was a little big so I had to add too much water. If you could post the size of the cans, that would be awesome! I did like this recipe, I just need to try it again so I can do it properly! All in all it is good & healthy! - 5/20/09

SO SORRY it's taken so long to respond to you. Been a while since I've been on the recipe part of the site & never rcv'd notification of your comment. Anyway,I use standard size cans (14-16oz). The cabbage REALLY cooks down so just barely cover it to begin. Can always add more cans if too much cbbg.

Very yummy! I also added more onion and used tomato paste instead of tomato sauce, and added minced garlic and fresh basil. The only seasonings I used were salt and red pepper flakes. This was very easy to make and I'll definitely make again. - 2/8/09

I just realized I rated the wrong recipe.I meant to comment on yours.I loved this recipe and have used it twice. I used a little less cabbage and a little more onion and more spices but it is still your recipe.I added a small can of green beans. I took one cup and added chicken broth and made soup. - 10/8/08

I'm so glad you enjoyed it and I love the revisions...will try them myself. This is something my grandmother used to make for us when we were kids. Not only low in cal/fat but also delicious!

Thanks for the comment ~ Debbi

Oh.. my.. god.. This recipe is awesome! Loved being able to eat things I love and not feel guilty later lol. Turkey was such a good way to add some meat to fill you up more. But hey, didn't stop me from seconds or thirds - 12/6/16

Makes a lot and is very filling! I used: garlic & chili powders, smoked paprika, black pepper, salt, a little ground fennel. The smoke flavor is good. That & the fennel gives it a sausage- flavor. The only change I would make next time is diced tomatoes instead of stewed; they didn't break up. - 9/30/13

I used all the liguids and even an additional cup of chicken stock and added some brown rice, mushrooms, whole garlic, celery...cooking it in a crock pot. Right now! It is sampling very good and also the house smells amazing. Comfort food with little, heck no, no guilt! - 4/15/10

This was really good. We ate it with grilled cheese sandwiches but it would have been fine as a one dish meal. My husband hae 3 servings of the stew! We will definitely be making more of this. - 4/30/09

We didn't have tomoto paste on hand but had red peper sauce and used that instead, worked really well. It's very filling, light, soupy and crunchy all in one. Goes great with brown rice as a side dish. - 3/31/09

This was easy and tasty. I added diced tomatoes seasoned with garlic and basil instead of stewed tomatoes and I used tomato paste instead of sauce. I also added some zucchini and fresh garlic. I enjoyed it, and I sprinkled some parm cheese on it for my picky eater...he gobbled it up. - 1/15/09
