I already make all my own spice mixes (including pumpkin pie spice mix), so I tried this recipe instead of my usual. Although both recipes included the same spices, the amount of each individual spice differed. I enjoy trying new recipes--always looking for ways to modify/improve my current ones. - 11/16/09

This is a good idea and I'm sure works well for some (as proven by the other ratings), but for some (including me-23 and live at home) not practical. Of the above, we only have cinnamon and (very old) nutmeg, lol, so for me it would be cheaper to buy a single item (the pumpkin pie spice). - 11/16/09

I remember from my grandmother (British/Dutch/Pennsylvania Dutch side of the family) that you can start out with equal amounts of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and clove; then adjust the seasonings as you like. (I tend to LOVE nutmeg; Grandma didn't care much for cinnamon.) Allspice is a good addition. - 10/16/10

Chef Meg - I can't find a way to email you so I'll ask here: I love the spice blends cookbook & would love more! Do you have a Chili blend? I get tired of looking for sugar & salt on every pkg in the store, but don't know enough about seasonings to be able to guess amounts & combinations. Thanks! - 11/17/10
