Honey it was 3 cans of Hunt's tomato sauce and 1 can of Hunt's petite diced tomatoes with sweet onion. And I THANK you for posting my sodium fest. (I loved it that AJ loved it! ;~) - 8/29/09

Overall a good recipe. Measurements would be nice: serving size and what size cans.

Substitutes I made were Muir Glens No Salt Added Tomato Sauce + a little Muir Glen Diced Fire Roasted Tomatoes. And Pinto Beans with No Salt Added.

Awsome. I have the veggie crumbles in my freezer. I will try it. I add cumin. Also when using slow cooker, I have heard, that add sauteed onions later on, after you turn off the slow cooker. SOmething about onions in slow cooker...they say...it doesn't "work". Thanks for posting the recipe. - 2/28/13

Reduced the sodium by using no salt added canned whole tomatoes. Just crush them with your hands before adding. Also, I used dark cocoa powder. Don't forget to rinse the black beans! I don't use cinnamon or nutmeg--used toasted, ground cumin instead.

I really find it hard to believe that one serving can contain 56.9 grams of protein. Something is wrong here. One serving if the Boca crumbles is 11 grams. A whole cup of pinto beans is 15.4 grams. It just doesn’t add up. - 11/24/19

Looks really good but this has way too much sodium. Perhaps a lot of the sodium is from the boca crumbles, tomato sauce and pinto beans. Will have to investigate how the sodium could be cut down to at least 1/4 of what it is now - 5/10/17

I used the MorningStar Farms version of the crumbles since my grocery store didn't have the Boca brand. Then I did my own nutrition calculations and didn't come up with near the amount of sodium or protein listed here...there was still a ton of sodium though... - 1/28/13

Are you kidding? That's TWICE my sodium allowance for the whole day! - 1/15/13
