Use a leaf of lettuce instead of the taco shell. You retain the crisp effect and the carbs are so reduced that you can have several. - 6/29/09

I always boil and rinse my hamburger meat after browning for recipes like tacos or spaghetti sauce etc. This makes the hamburger 97% lean and still retains all of the nutrients. This works for all hamburger. The flavor given up by the fat is more than made up with the seasonings. Bon Appetito! - 7/10/09

It's really easy to make tacos w/out taco seasoning---you just need a little chili powder, cumin and maybe coriander powder, some tomato sauce, diced onions and maybe garlic or peppers. I make 'em all the time using ground turkey. Leftovers make a great salad! - 3/23/07

any taco meat that I make, I add some frozen corn & pinto or red beans to - it gives it more flavor & texture, cuts down the calories and fills you up with more fiber - 6/28/08

I make it with my own seasonings added and we can have it like tossed salad with or without the tortilla then toss in a few tortilla chips for the crunch. I make tacos every week or two it's a favorite dish at my house. Make my own hot sauce too with jalapenos. - 7/10/09

I used extra lean ground beef, added my own seasonings and used the lowfat cheese. Nonfat cheese has way too many chemicals for me and a lot of msg which I can not tolerate. Taco seasonings has a lot of msg also. If you tolorate msg, then taco seasoning does work great! Great recipe though! - 4/27/09

I make these just as this recipe states. A great classic! Modifiers should submit their own recipes. If you use lean/extra lean gr. beef (4% fat) as recipe states don't need to rinse the meat, add the water or meat gets too dry. 3 crispy taco shells are only 150 cal. So enjoy, I use 1 oz. per taco. - 10/24/08

Curious - Step 4 says to put 2 oz beef into shell and next line says a serving is 3 oz. Which is correct and which one goes with nutrition numbers? - 6/28/08

Why would anyone add water.? Drain any fat from the beef, run it under hot water and strain; Add seasonings, they will blend. Try with heated soft corn tortillas (not fried in fat) this will lower the calorie content a lot. - 12/25/07

Love tacos, only time I eat meat. Try my family's favorite, 'Loose Tacos.' Same principle but instead of taco shells, crush doritoes, tostitoes, etc. on plate. Then build your own. Usually, tostitoes/taco meat/lettuce/chopped tomatoes/shredded cheese/Picante sauce. I forgo the cheese and sauce. - 6/28/09

I like to go without the seasoning and I prefer some mashed avocado and a dollop of plain Greek yogurt on top. I like the suggestion to use the lettuce leaf in place of the shell. Would eat one with the shell and one with the lettuce leaf I think. - 4/16/20
