Introduction

Hearty vegetable soup with just a bit of ham Hearty vegetable soup with just a bit of ham
Number of Servings: 6

Ingredients

    8 Cups water
    3 Tbsp. ham soup base
    3 Tbsp. chicken soup base
1 Cup diced or shredded cured ham
    3 Cups cubed rutabega
    2 Cups chopped carrots
    2 Cups diced potatoes
    2 Cups chopped onion
    1 Cup chopped celery
    1/2 tsp. pepper, freshly ground
    1/2 tsp. garlic powder

Directions

In large stockpot add water and ham (I use ham that is left on the bone from a baked bone-in ham and let the whole bone with meat simmer for half an hour to help make a base for your soup and loosen the scraps of ham on the bone). Add soup bases, rutabega, and carrots. Bring to a boil and simmer 30 minutes. Add potatoes, onion, celery, pepper, and garlic powder. Simmer an additional 30-40 minutes to desired firmness/softness of vegetables. Makes approximately 6 -2 cup servings.
