Introduction

Light and cool! The perfect summer time dessert. Light and cool! The perfect summer time dessert.
Number of Servings: 12

Ingredients

    1 white cake mix
4 egg whites (I use medium eggs)
    1/3 c. oil (I use sunflower oil)
    1.25 c. water
12 oz. orange soda (I use Sunkist)
8 oz . tub of Cool Whip Lite, thawed

Directions

Mix together cake mix, egg whites, oil and water. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes until done. Let cake cool to room temperature. Poke holes all over the top of the cake with a fork. Pour the orange soda over the cake. It will absorb the excess, so don't worry. Frost the cake with thawed Cool Whip Lite. Refrigerate for one hour. Enjoy!

My mom used to make this every summer, although she used jello instead of orange soda. When refrigerated, the jello sets up and is so cold and makes the cake so moist! - 8/12/10

Can you substitute apple sauce for the oil to make this low fat? I know you can substitute apple sauce for oil in most baking recipes so I'm curious if it can be done with this one as well! - 8/13/10

Amber, I've never tried substituting with applesauce, so I don't know. If you try it, however, I would love to hear how it turns out! If that doesn't work, you could probably get away with cutting the oil in half. I have also considered trying this with an angel food cake.

    Good
But just as good but better for you. Sugar Free cake mix, 12oz. diet orange soda. Stir in gently. Will rise perfectly ! No oil,no eggs. Stays moist. If you cover it it gets too moist over time. Delish !!! - 2/24/11

I never use artificial sweeteners in anything. I believe they are more damaging to the body than extra weight ever could be.
