Ingredients

    3 quarts of air-popped popcorn
1 cup brown sugar, packed firmly
    1 cup butter
    1/4 cup light Karo syrup
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. baking soda

Directions

Air-pop popcorn and set aside in large, microwave-safe bowl (leave room for mixing). Combine brown sugar, butter, Karo syrup and salt in a microwave-safe bowl (plastic is best - others become too hot to hold). Microwave on high for 2 minutes, or until ingredients come to a boil. Stir thoroughly, and microwave on high for an additional 2 minutes. Stir thoroughly and add baking soda, mixing well and quickly. Pour over popcorn and stir thoroughly. Microwave on high for 1 1/2 minutes. Stir thoroughly, and microwave for an additional 1 1/2 minutes. Stir one last time, and pour into wax-paper lined cookie sheets to cool. Also makes excellent popcorn balls.

I have used this recipe for over 20 years and love it. To cut back on the calories I use a lot more popcorn and just coat it very lightly. Don't really miss the full coating. - 7/25/11
