Ingredients
-
1 lb. french bread cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1 stick I can't believe it's not butter
1 cup chopped onion
0.5 cup chopped celery
8 ounces cremini or white button mushrooms, cleaned and chopped
3 T. dried parsley
1 tsp ground sage
1 tsp ground thyme
1.5 cup 99% fat free chicken broth
2 boxes (7 oz) brown and serve turkey sausage
Tips
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spread bread cubes out on 2 baking sheets. Bake until lightly toasted, watching carefully and stirring midway, 10 to 15 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, in large skillet over medium-high heat, melt butter. Add onion, celery and mushrooms, cook, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are tender about 5-8 minutes. Take off heat. Stir in parsley, sage and thyme.
3.Put taosted bread in large bowl. Add the vegetables and mix well. Stir in enough broth to make the bread moist but not soggy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
4. Transfer dressing into a shallow baking dish. (The dressing can be prepared up to 1 day ahead)
5. Turn oven down to 375 degrees and bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until heated through and browned on top.
