Ingredients

    2 pounds lean ground beef
    1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
    1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
    1 (28 ounce) can tomato sauce
    2 (15 ounce) cans kidney beans, drained and rinsed
    1 (15 ounce) can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
    1 (15 ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
    1 1/2 cups chopped onion
    1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
    1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
    1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
    1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
    1/4 cup chili powder

Tips

The original recipe calls for a little bit of sugar, but I didn't add it, and I don't feel that the recipe really needs it. Also, I used crushed and diced tomatoes instead of tomato juice. The original is here: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/its-chili-by-george/


Directions

1. Place ground beef in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until evenly brown. Drain, and crumble.
2. In a large pot over high heat (or a large slow-cooker) combine diced tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, onions, bell pepper, cayenne pepper, oregano, ground black pepper, salt, cumin and chili powder. After the spices are stirred in, add the drained and rinsed beans, and the ground beef. Set the slow cooker on high for 4 hours, or low for 8 hours. If cooking on the stove, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 1 1/2 hours.
