Number of Servings: 16

Ingredients

    1-1/2 cups whole wheat flour
    1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    3/4 cup granulated sugar
    1-1/2 tsp baking soda
    1 tsp baking powder
    1 tsp salt
    1 cup skim milk
    1/2 cup maple syrup
    1 large egg
    1/2 cup chopped walnuts
    1/4 cup chocolate chips
    1/2 cup wheat bran

Directions

Preheat oven to 325ºF (165ºC).
Line or lightly oil an 8x8-inch baking pan and set aside. In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Add the milk, maple syrup, and egg.
Fold in the walnuts, chocolate chips, and wheat bran, and stir gently until "just mixed".
Pour evenly into baking pan and bake for 55-60 minutes or until a toothpick/knife comes out clean.
Let cool completely before icing or cutting into squares. Makes 8-16 brownies.

    Sounds good, but small. I think I would try it with honey and raisons instead of the maple syrup and chocolate chips. - 7/16/10

    I was intrigued by the recipe title. But 16 brownies out of an 8x8 pan? That's one mighty small brownie for 160 calories. :-( - 7/14/10
