Ingredients

    -2 cups all-purpose flour (I use 1 cup whole wheat and 1 cup white)-1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar-1 TBSP baking powder-1/2 tsp salt-4 TBSP butter-1 cup toasted chopped walnuts-1 cup chopped dates-1 1/4 cups milk-1 large egg-1/2 tsp grated lemon zest

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 375*F. Lightly grease 9x5-inch loaf pan; set aside.
2. Combine flour, light brown sugar, baking powder an salt in large bowl. Cut iin butter with pastry blender until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
3. Add the chopped walnuts and the chopped dates to flour mixture; stir until coated. Beat milk, egg and lemon zest in small bowl with fork. Add to flour mixture; stir until moistened. Pour batter into prepared pan.
4. Bake until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, about 45-50 minutes. Cool in pan on wire rack 10 minutes. Remove from pan and let bread cool completely ona wire rack.
