Ingredients
-
*Pillsbury 9" Refrigerated Pie Crust (entire pie crust)
sauer kraut, 2 cups, well drained
Onions, raw, 1 large , chopped
Olive Oil, 2 tbsp
*Caraway Seed, 1 tsp
Sour Cream, 1 cup
Egg, fresh, 2 large
Swiss Cheese, 2 cup, shredded ( any hard cheese will do)
*Morningstar Farms Bacon Strips- whole package, diced
Tips
If you are serving carnivores, substitute 1 pound of bacon for the veggie bacon. However, my carnivore friends think the flavor is better with veggie bacon.
Directions
Directions:
Place sauer kraut in a colander to drain thoroughly. Line a deep dish pie plate with enough pastry to make a crust on the bottom and sides and set aside. Sautee onions and bacon with oil until onions start to caramelize. Mix in caraway seeds and put in pie crust. Combine the remaining ingredients (sauerkraut, sour cream, eggs, and grated cheese) and spoon on top of bacon/onions Bake at 350F for about 60 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean, not gloppy. Let cool slightly before serving. Tastes awesome the next day!
Serving Size: 8 slices in the pie
