Ingredients

    1 lb dried pinto beans
    15 oz tomato sauce
    15 oz water
    1.5 c chopped cooked ham or bacon
    1 clove garlic
    1 tsp onion powder
    1 tsp garlic powder
    3/4 tbsp New Mexico chili powder

Tips

If you want less spicy beans, use 2 tsp of black pepper and 1/4 t of chili powder. Beans can be "speed soaked" by being placed in a pot, covered with water, brought to a boil, then removed from heat and covered for an hour or two.


Directions

1.Rinse, sort, and pick through dried beans.
2. Cover beans with water. Soak for 6 hours or more.
3. Drain and rinse beans.
4.Put beans and all other ingredients into lg clean pot.
5. Add fresh water to just above bean mixture.
6. Simmer on stove top for around 2 hours, or until beans will mash with fork, or in crockpot on low for 10-12 hours.
