Introduction
A Salvadoran Traditional Dish like a thick stuffed tortilla A Salvadoran Traditional Dish like a thick stuffed tortillaNumber of Servings: 8
Ingredients
-
2 cup Masa Flour For Tamales (by SHANIA23511)
1 cup (8 fl oz) Water, tap
0.5 cup Rosarittas No-Fat Refried Beans
.5 cup, shredded Mexican Cheese, queso asadero
Directions
Mix masa and water together, adding more water as needed until you have a moist, but not wet, playdough consistency. (It should not crack when you handle it). Cover with a towel and let sit in the bowl for 10 minutes. Split it into 8 balls.
In a separate bowl, mix the cheese and beans together. (I also sometimes add some diced green chilis for flavor.)
Flatten the balls slightly, and then place 2 tbs of refried beans and cheese mixture into center, then wrap the masa around the stuffing. Carefully flatten the pupusa (a tortilla press is handy).
Place on a hot, lightly sprayed griddle or pan until browned on one side, then flip to other side. Usually topped with a cabbage salsa called curtido.
Serving Size: Makes 8 pupusas
