    2 c. flour
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 tsp salr
    1 tbsp baking powder
    1/4 tsb cinnamon
    1/8 tsp nutmeg
    2 tbsp melted butter
    1/2 c. milk
    1 egg, beaten
    1 qt oil for frying


Heat oil to 375 degrees F.

Sift flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg together. Mix in butter until crumbly. Stir in milk and egg. With floured hands, lightly knead the smooth dough. Turn onto floured board. Pat dough into 1/4 inch thickness. Flour biscuit cutters (one 1", one 3-4"). Cut out doughnuts. Fry doughnuts in oil, turning once, for about 3 minutes or until golden brown.

Makes approximately 12 doughnuts
