Marg's Easy English Trifle
This is my simplified and less "calorific" version of my Liverpool Nana's fabulous trifle. She included sherry and fruit salad in the cake part and used real whipped cream instead of Cool Whip, but I've opted to go without them. You could certainly go traditional, though - just make sure to add in the extra calories.
It looks absolutely decadent, but it's really not a huge number of calories per serving - even with the quite large serving sizes suggested. It's also surprisingly good for you.
I entered it as a Christmas treat, because it's a tradition in our family to have it every Christmas. However, it doesn't have to be saved for Christmas. It's also great for parties or any time you want a beautiful and tasty dessert.
It keeps well in the fridge for a few days. So, you don't have to eat it all at once.
