Looks like a lot of calories that really are not needed for someone trying to loose weight. Why would you want to tempt yourself with this on the table while eating your lo calorie meal. - 5/14/13

Even while trying to reduce weight, flavor and decadence has its place. This is wonderful for variety. We need to challenge our palate. For those more on low-carb... MUAH! - 5/14/13

This would be better to substitute a little sesame oil instead of the butter. That's the missing flavor. - 1/13/13

The suggestions for white rice wine vinegar, and sesame oil where spot on, @smokeybear3; try adding more cayenne pepper and paprika (a lot more) we stopped measuring. We also suggest about 9 drops of fish oil. - 6/29/13

What a great looking recipe. I'm doing the Low Carb diet so counting calories is not a big part of the diet. It looks like a great taste enhancer and it is low carb. I'm betting it will go great on burgers. - 3/13/15

I was told by a very reputable source ( a chef at a nationally know Japanese Steak House) that Ketchup is used rather than Tomato Paste. I use the Sesame Oil instead of the butter and a little bit of powdered ginger. - 1/14/14

    Too many calories.
Also for those asking about a mayo substitute - try Veganiase, it's the same cals as mayo but no eggs and has a much "fresher" taste.

I would absolutely love this sauce and probably put it on everything. I have, however, quit mayonnaise. This was harder for me than quitting alcohol! hopefully I will finally lose weight now. If I haven't after 6 months, Umma comin' back! - 5/14/13

I don't think this tastes anything like the yum yum sauce that I have had in numerous Japanese steakhouses (which all taste exactly the same). I followed the recipe and let it sit overnight but this just loos and tastes like mayonnaise to me. Suggestions??? - 1/9/13
