Number of Servings: 12

Ingredients

1 lb. 93% lean ground turkey
    1 large onion, chopped fine
1 large 29 oz. can of tomatoe puree
    2 heaping tbs. tomato paste
3 small cans red kidney beans
    1 tbs. cumin
    2 tbs. chili powder
    1 tbs. garlic powder
    2 tbs. brown sugar
    Salt to taste

Directions

Put ground turkey in large dutch oven. Add finely chopped (or minced) onion. Cook on the stove top at medium high until turkey is done and onions are translucent. Because turkey is so lean there is no need to rinse and drain.

Add pureed tomatoes and tomato paste as well as spices and sugar. Mix well.

Add beans. Do NOT drain the beans as there are many nutrients in the liquid. Stir. Cook 30-45 minutes on medium low. Add salt to taste (about 1-2 tsp.)

I followed the recipe to a T. I found that the recipe made 10 cups of chili. I entered it into the recipe calculator, and found that 1 cup was 242 calories. Not to nitpick, but who is going to eat 3/4 cup of chili? Tastes good though. - 6/6/10

I love this recipe and make it all the time. Instead of the brown supar I add a small can of baked beans or if not handy a little maple syrup for a little sweetness to balance out the spicy. Also add hot sauce a splash of balsamic vinegar and worchester sauce, and a dash of nutmeg. SO YUMMY! - 2/1/09

This was really good. I Pureed two small cans of stew tomatoes and cut one of the cans of beans to make it meatier and spicier. It was great and I will make it again. I paired it with low fat corn bread for a full meal deal. - 3/5/08

I made it pretty much as is but improvised a little because my favorite grocer (Fresh & Easy) doesn't carry tomato puree. I used low sodium stewed sliced tomatoes instead and it tasted great. I also didn't measure exact "heaping teaspoons" (a bad habit of mine) however the man and I both LOVED it! - 10/6/10

I made a few adjustments -- I increased the ratio of turkey to beans and also added a can of jalapenos. I had mine with a little part skim ricotta to cut the heat (I'm such baby), but for my slim husband, I served his over rice with a hearty sprinkling of mozzarella cheese over the top. - 3/14/10

Made this last night for guests (with a few revisions, like fresh garlic instead of powder and I added a fresh jalepeno) and it was absolutely wonderful, everyone loved it! - 2/24/08

Yummy yummy yummy.. I did make some alterations.. I salted and peppered the turkey while browning, used ground mustard instead of cumin, and I also added pinto beans, too (pinto and kidney in the chili). Next time, I will probably add some hot sauce! :D - 1/4/08

I made this for the season opener for our football team and was it good!! I added an ear of sweet corn and 1 green bell pepper chopped to it, and didn't add any heat, as my dad likes it mild....the result was a hit!! Everyone loved it and asked for 2nd's....definite do-over! Thanks!! - 9/4/11
