Ingredients

1/3 cup molasses
1/4 cup light butter
2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp ground cardamom
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1/8 tsp pepper
1 lrg egg beaten
Tips
this is a very time consuming cookie but really good it is just sweet enough for that sweet tooth your trying to ignore and it has a spicey taste to it.
Directions
1. In large sauce pan combine the molasses and butter. Cook and stir over low heat until butter melts. Remove from heat. Pour mixture into a large bowl and cool to room temperature.
2. In a medium mixing bowl stir together the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking soda, cardamom, allspice, and pepper. Set aside.
3.Stir egg into cooled molasses mixture. Gradually stir in flour mixture until combined; knead in the last of the flour mixture by hand, if necessary.
4. Cover and chill about 1 hour or until dough is easy to handle.
5. Preheat oven to 350 F. Divide dough into 12 portions. On a lightly floured suface roll each portion into 10-inch rope. cut ropes into 1/2-inch pieces. (cut each of the 12 pieces into 20) Place pieces 1/2 inch apart in an ungreased shallow baking pan.
6. Bake in preheated oven about 10 minutes or until edges are firm and bottoms are lightly browned. Transfer cookies to paper towels; cool. Makes 240 small cookies.
