Introduction
This is a wonderful Christmas treat. This is a wonderful Christmas treat.Number of Servings: 16
Ingredients
-
Half gallon of apple cider
1 bottle of red wine
1 1/2 cups brandy
1 orange (peel removed in strips, halved, and juice squeezed)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 TSP cardamom seeds
1/2 TSP clove
1/2 TSP crushed nutmeg
3 cinnamon sticks
1/4 TSP pepper corns
Tips
For the red wine, I would use a table wine, or a medium dry wine like merlot. For a recipe like this never spend more than 12 dollars on the wine, in fact I usually spend less than 10.
Directions
In a crock pot, set to high add your apple cider, orange with peel and juice, sugar, cardamom, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon sticks and pepper corns.
Let this steep for no less than three hours.
Once the spices have really steeped with the apple cider, you can add the red wine and brandy to the crock pot.
Turn your crock pot down to low and let this heat until warmed through.
You don't want to cook the alcohol off, unless that is what you are going for.
You can keep this warm in your crock pot
Serve at a Christmas party in coffee cups with a cinnamon stick and orange slices in coffee cups, and watch this adult treat disappear
