Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

    2 bananas, sliced in half
    4 teaspoons caramel sauce
2 tablespoons ground almonds or peanuts
4 fresh cherries, stem and pit removed*
4 teaspoons semisweet chocolate chips, melted
4 wooden craft sticks or lollipop sticks

*You could also use maraschino cherries.

Tips

Get creative. Use peanuts instead of almonds, top with a tablespoon of whipped cream or a spoon of crushed pineapple. With a dessert this low in calories, you have some room to customize it.

Directions

Line a small sheet pan with wax or parchment paper.

Press a stick into each banana half until it pokes through the other end, leaving 1-2 inches exposed at the bottom.
Spread one teaspoon caramel over each banana, then roll in the chopped almonds. Place one cherry on the top of each stick. Drizzle each banana with one teaspoon melted chocolate.
Freeze on the sheet pan. Serve immediately or place in a freezer bag to store them.

Serving Size: Makes 4 bananas on a stick

Id remake recipe as w/o processed sugar. Cut caramel sauce -use agave syrup w/cocoa powder. 1. Cherries processed to smooth, add to agave syrup, dip bananas on a stick in cherry sauce, roll in grd almonds, place on a wax paper on cookie sheet. Freeze for cool snack for later. - 7/8/12

Not my idea of a banana split. I make a real banana split for for about 150 calories. I use 1/2 banana, slice it into two long parts. I take 1/2 cup ice milk and divide it into two small scoops; put it between the banana slices. Top one scoop with 1 tsp sf choc. syrup and other w/ a mashed strawberr - 7/5/12

Potassium is one extra nutrient I track, and while bananas generously provide it, I'm not that excited about eating bananas. This kills 2 birds with 2 stone: I can now eat my banana for the potassium, and have my evening snack in the bargain. - 6/29/12

Disappointed when I read the recipe. The picture AND the treat are misleading when compared to the name of the treat. Where's the CHOCOLATE? It might well be tasty if billed as banana pop, banana on a stick, etc. For something called "banana split" it misses the boat completely! - 6/29/12

we do a similar recipe at home. We role a banana in a little chocolate sauce, then in bran flakes. Gets some fiber into my little ones! - 7/25/12

It seems much closer to a cold Bananas Foster than a banana split.

I'm sorry folks, but the look is NOT appealing. Even when I showed my wife, she thought the same way. It might be something to be made for a bachellorette party, but NOT for kids. As a substitute teacher, I can tell you right now, the kids would tear you up over this one. - 8/6/13

Not a banana split, that is for sure. This might be fun to make for kids, but I wouldn`t bother to make for myself (or any other adult)....and what about that picture? It looks like someone dropped a couple of "banana pops" on the fruit bowl! - 7/16/12

I would use agave nectar, never use maraschino cherries:they are bleached and dyed to get that unnatural color. - 7/2/19

I loved it with the chocolate chips. If you'd like it to be more like the real thing, use chocolate sauce instead of caramel. Yummy! - 7/1/19

I decided to use the whole banana then dipped 3/4 banana in the chocolate after stick in place. Next, bananas were placed in freezer standing up (chocolate coated even more banana). After the chocolate started to harden then sprinkled with the ground. - 6/10/19

I make something similar--but never actually froze them before eating. I don't do sweeteners-- so the caramel sauce is skipped and I use cocoa powder instead of chocolate--I do use non-sweetened whipped cream and that makes it awesome! - 6/16/17

Healthy? WHERE? Delete, delete, delete. I do eat bananas on occasion but they are fine without this caramel/nutty tinkering. After this one, you absolutely have no justification on making over anyone else's recipes. I wish I could give this a Minus FIve. (No I didn't try it.. I have a brain) - 9/30/12
