Ingredients
-
1 Tb + 1 1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 tsp dried oregano
3/4 tsp paprika
1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
1 1/2 tsp sea salt (you may want to reduce salt for your taste)
1 1/2 tsp black pepper
Directions
1. Mix ingredients and store in an air tight container.
To make taco meat:
Brown and drain 1 lb ground meat of choice. Wipe skillet of excess grease. Return meat to skillet sprinkle spice mix (approx 2 1/2 Tb) over meat, add 1 1/2 c. water. Simmer 20-25 minutes to let flavors mingle and water cook out/ thicken into a sauce. (When I make taco meat, I usually add a chopped onion to the meat as it cooks and then some salsa while the seasoning simmers. It adds a some veggies AND enhances the flavor.)

Absolutely Fantastic!!! Fresh tasting and it's so much better than the packaged ones. Husband raves about how much he likes it better than the store bought kinds. It's true though you can reduce the salt a little...or not if you like it saltier. I am going to email this recipe to a friend :) - 7/28/08
