These were good! I used 1/2 cup of sugar free almond syrup (Torini brand from World Market) instead of the water and I used SF pancake syrup for the honey. These satisfied my sweet tooth and kept very well in the freezer. Thanks! - 8/16/08

I made a double batch of these lastnight, individually wrapped them (18 bars), and tossed them in the freezer for quick after-workout snacks or to use as a meal replacement. They are perfect! Not to sweet, but just enough to fill me up! Thank you for such awesomeness! :) - 10/14/11

Thanks for this recipe, I loved it. I did switch things up a little due to not having flaxseed (I put in some wheat germ instead).
Next time I will add almond extract as others said to add to the almond taste, but these are great as is. A great way to hide the protein powder while getting it in.

Finally! I had gastric bypass 11 years ago. My protein count is always low and I HATE the taste of protein powder. I made these and I am thrilled. - I can't even taste the powder. Thank you - J-9eer!!!!! - 6/24/12

old fashioned rolled oats gave them the chewiness of a true almond joy. i chopped the almonds hoping to get more almond flavor, but it didn't help. maybe almond extract instead? no cals but lots of flavor. i got 24 pieces out of a batch, better size for that chocolate fix:) - 8/4/08

These were really good! We had to modify the recipe a bit because we didn't have protein powder on hand. Instead, we used soy flour. We used unsweetened coconut instead of sweetened. We had to add a half cup more water and .16 cup sugar, but then they were fabulous! - 2/14/10

I added almond extract as suggested. I don't think I used enough liquid because mine fell apart easily, but still SO yummy! I will make again for sure - 8/6/08

Awesome bar. I added some dried cranberries and milled flaxseed which actually has better nutritional value opposed to whole flaxseeds. - 10/27/19

Awesome recipe, but I made a few changes that I think make the bar nice and chewy. I used a half cup of oats and 1 cup of cooked quinoa, I replaced the chocolate chips with chopped up 72% cocoa chocolate, I added 3 T of Splenda, added more protein, and used 1 cup of milk. I baked at 350F. :D - 5/22/11

These are OK but don't taste anything close to almond joy bars. I know how other protein bars taste (not so good) and these are a little better. Plus they are probably better for you. - 10/16/08
