Introduction

My inspiration to make this was the day I made my family heirloom recipe for a traditional Bavarian plum tart, served over a delicious shortbread crust. I didn't want to surrender to that, so I gently simmered my own serving of plums. The plums made such a delicious syrup that I decided to serve it over yogurt. I loved it!

Forget fruit yogurts with high fructose corn syrup. You can do this to any kind of stone fruit so that you can eat fruit in a delicious way.

My favorite plum to use are Italian Prunes. They're a little tricky to find, but they come into season around September.

This was delicious!! Maybe a little runny but that can be changed by cutting the water in half. Excellent over regular yogurt but even more amazing over frozen yogurt!! - 10/23/09

I'm glad you liked it. You know...you're right that it can be a bit "juicy", which I like. I would add a little bit of cornstarch-- like a teaspoon or two while it's cooking. That should thicken it right up!

The Italian Prunes really make a difference. I had tried this several times with generic plums and with Red Haven peaches, and it was really good, but this time I made it with the Italian Prunes and it was phenomenal. - 8/22/12

I've been making plum juice, but this sounds like something I would like to have on hand. - 8/13/12

To thicken the juice you also could use tapioca on which I was raised. I think I prefer using less water. - 9/10/11

This was so good. I did not have frozen yogurt, so I ate it over vanilla ice cream and it was great. The only thing I changed was the water. I only added 1/2 cup. - 3/2/10
