Number of Servings: 12

Ingredients

    6 cups old-fashioned or steel-cut oats
    3/4 c ground flax seeds
    3 T cinnamon
    1 1/2 cups walnuts, chopped
    1 1/2 cups dried cranberries

Directions

Mix all ingredients together. Makes 12 servings (about 3/4 cup each)
NOTE: There are no directions because this is the dry mix.
To cook, add water to achieve the desired consistency (start with one part water to one part oatmeal) and heat on the stove or in the microwave.

Store in the refrigerator as flax seeds and walnuts can spoil quickly.

I found this recipe in my sister's SP recipe book. It's 3/4 cup mix to 3/4 cup boiling water. Stir and let sit for 5 minutes. It's very good. I made some and had it for breakfast this a.m. - 10/19/11

This sounds great - but there aren't any directions. How much oatmeal to water? How long do you cook?
    Thank you for updated information.

This is so much better and less expensive than packets of instant oatmeal, and so easy to prepare! Great source of fiber & healthy fats. Very satisfying...keeps me full for hours. - 7/6/10

I think this is very good and exceptionally healthy recipe. For other ideas, please see my "Fried Apple, Raisen and Pecan Oatmeal"--I think has a few more calories but faster and very good! Both are!!! - 1/10/09

I love this recipe. I prepare it in a gallon sized zip lock bag, and I am good for a couple weeks. A teaspoon of Splenda brown sugar gives it just the right sweetness. I fill the bowl 2/3, and then top with hot water, about half inch over the top. After a few mins, it absorbs to just right YUM, - 12/28/13

1 part water to 1 part oatmeal is wrong. It's 2 parts liquid to 1 part oatmeal. I use 1/2 cup oatmeal and 1 cup 1% milk, cook in the microwave and it comes out great. - 3/15/13

I LOVE this recipe! For my 2nd batch, I am using dried blueberries instead of the dried cranberries for a change of taste. I top mine with 1/2 c. vanilla yogurt....YUM! - 1/2/12

Might be good to try but I prefer regular old fashioned oats. - 7/27/20

Just made this this morning. Easy, and makes a lot. Had to dig out the coffee grinder for the flax, but once it was all in place, it was easy to package up. I put a tiny bit of stevia powder on it. 3/4 cup mix and 3/4 cup water were perfect for me. Makes a big bowl. - 6/6/19

This is a great, easy, healthy breakfast! I use 1 cup of water and then put 1/2 cup cold milk on. Sometimes I add 1/2 of a banana. I do put 2 tsp of sugar or splenda on, but I am trying slowly to wean off of the sugar! - 10/21/13

I have always been told you cannot heat up ground flaxseed...does that not apply in this dish? - 1/28/13

Love this! Much more filling than store bought instant oatmeal! I love the nuts and (surprisingly) the cranberries, they add a touch of sweetness. I may play with some other dried fruit for the next batch I make, just for fun. Once again, Love it! - 1/27/13

Terrific idea to have it premixed. Can't wait to try it.

i found that it was really lacking in sweetness and so had to add some extra cranberries, extra cinnamon, a bit of brown sugar...whatever i was in the mood for whenever i had some. it is, however, very filling. the serving size is too big for me so i have to half it! - 10/16/12

Love this oatmeal! So much healthier than instant packets. I like mine a little soupier so I do 3/4 cup oats and 1 cup water. sometimes I use rice milk in place of the water. I always use 1 tbs of agave! Love it! - 9/12/12

I added 2 packets of Splenda (per bowl) for a hint of sweetness to take the edge off of the oats when there weren't any cranberries in my bite. Excellent! - 1/20/12

This is delicious and extremely satisfying. My appetite is satisfied all morning long. No need for a snack before lunch. The addition of flaxseed is great for my cholesterol as well. Thanks so much for this recipe! - 1/8/12

Just tried this this morning. Good but thought cinnamon too strong; next batch will decrease it. Added a little Stevia. Great source of fiber. I'm sure this will fill me and last into the morning. - 10/7/11

Oatmeal is a healthy whole grain! Don't worry about points. You're getting a filling, healthy meal.
