I did this and recalculated the stats, and using just 2 oz of tortilla chips mine has 10 fat grams per serving. I even added taco seasoning to mine and it was still kinda bland. I have to eat mine with Daisy lite sour cream. And yes, the 12 serving portion sizes are small.

For a healthier version, try this using tortilla chips that have NO sodium. We have El Sabroso Tortilla Chips in this area, and they are great! There is enough sodium in the cheese and canned foods, and adding some garlic and onion powder will add zest to the flavor. - 3/10/09

I will try this with a few modifications. Don't think you need rice, corn & tortilla chips so I will not use rice. Love the other ingredients so this should be a keeper. - 3/9/09

This was really good~silly me overcooked it though!! But it was still really good and my hubby LOVED it...will definitely make this again. I put a little fat free sour cream on top and served with some salsa and it was great! - 3/27/09

We'll definitely be making this again! With the leftovers, I added some salsa under the chip layer, and added some seasonings (like taco seasoning), and that vastly improved the flavor. I will be seasoning the meat with my own taco seasoning next time. Otherwise, it was fantastic!! - 3/23/09

This recipe is good...but the salsa is mandatory. Without it, the dish is really dry. I didn't put sour cream on it, but I bet that would have been GREAT. I would make this again. It's a filling dish to take to work for lunch! - 12/12/08

I make this. I do add the rice and beans: 1 can low cal black beans and I use brown rice. Cook 1 c. brown rice and add to the black beans with onions, peppers etc. Plenty of good protein here, and I like the idea of the whole wheat sun chips and FF sour cream. I'll try that next time myself. - 7/18/08

Try a little cumin, garlic and adobo seasoning in it. I never cook anything Mexican without cumin. - 3/10/10

Like that turkey is being used and black beans are a good source of fiber. Not too bad of sodium either. Looks good and plan to make it. - 7/18/08

I will try this and it's not high in calories if you add brown rice. Beans are good proteins and corn is a veg. Use wheat tortilla chips. - 7/18/08

There are some easy ways to make the fat and calories go down on this. I have a similiar version, where I use low sodium taco seasoning, red bell peppers, & garlic to season meat. Skip the beans and rice and use whole wheat sun chips and up the chips to layer. Add cottage cheese & FF sour cream. - 7/18/08

This sounds like so many calories. I wonder who many it really is. I doubt it would feed 12 people unless they were all on Sparks Healthy Living mentality. :0) - 7/18/08

Oohhh, yeah! Definitely a keeper. Next time will mix the tortilla chips into the mix (the chips and cheese formed a hard crust on top that comes off really easily). Also, need to cover the dish as it bakes so top stays moist. - 8/2/11

Sorry but this was awfully dry, the taste wasn't too bad but not very flavorful unless I added sour cream and salsa. I don't think I will be making this again. - 11/28/10

Crazy bland. Added 1 tsp chipotle seasoning to rice water and 1/2 cup salsa between rice & tortilla chip layers and it was so bland. Will definitely make again but will season meat very well (taco seasoning) as it cooks and add 1-2 cups salsa. - 11/27/10

Sounds really good with a few "tweaks" for party appetizers! The fat & calorie count are high for the small portions so I'd cut the cheese in half, add salt-free seasonings, use different chips and cut back on the rice. Bake it on a large shallow baking pan then scoop into small clear cups & serve! - 11/21/10
