Ingredients

    Apple Butter, 1/2 cup (remove)
*Quaker Oats - Quick 1 Minute - Dry, 2 cup (remove)
Wheat germ, crude, 3/4 cup (remove)
    *Sesame Seeds, .3/4cup (remove)
Sunflower Seeds, without salt, 3/4 cup, hulled (remove)
    Flaxseed, .5 cup (remove)
    Honey, 1 cup (remove)
*Whole Foods All Natural Peanut Butter, 1/2 cup (remove)
    Cranberries, .5 cup, chopped (remove)
    *Blueberries, dried, 5 tbsp (remove)
*Dried Mangos, 3 strips chopped up(remove)
    Walnuts, .5 cup, chopped (remove)

Directions

Heat Apple Butter, natural peanut butter, honey and a spash of vanilla in a pot on medium until it simmers. Put Quacker Oats, wheat germ, ground flaxseed, sesame seeds, sunflower seads and nuts in a pan and roast for 10-15 min until lightly browned. Use wax paper and line another roasting pan, spray wax paper with pam. Mix the heated items with the dry roasted items in a bowl until everything is well coated. Press the mixture in the wax paper lined pan. Press down until it is squished even in the pan. Fold over wax paper and cool 2 hours. Once cooled remove and cut into 32 bars. I went to the bulk barn and got all the dried fruit, apple butter and peanut butter. I tried to make sure they were sugar free. The dried cranberries, mango, apple butter and peanut butter I was able to find sugar free. I also put in dried strawberries - like the ones used in boxed cereal's. This recipe turned out awesome. It was enjoyed by my kids.

These turned out good. Good texture and flavour but I found them too sweet. Next time I'll reduce the honey and apple butter.
    Thanks
Made them again in Mar '10 reducing the honey by half and they turned out perfect. Thanks, I luv 'em.

Although they are very tasty, I found the liquid to dry ratio out of whack -- mine were too mushy. Will add more oats next time. - 5/5/09

These are delicious and taste more like dessert than a granola bar! They keep you filled up for a while too! - 4/29/09

i made this tonight and it was fabulous!!! i'll use these on my long run days as power bars. i used slivered almonds in place of the walnuts and added a cup of crushed raisin bran and a cup of crushed Special K cereal and doubled all the fruit. - 7/6/10
