Introduction

A filling breakfast or post-workout recovery drink, this protein-packed smoothie tastes just like strawberry cheesecake! You can also substitute any other fruit for the strawberries, or add half the strawberries and half a different kind of fruit. (We love the classic strawberry banana combo!) A filling breakfast or post-workout recovery drink, this protein-packed smoothie tastes just like strawberry cheesecake! You can also substitute any other fruit for the strawberries, or add half the strawberries and half a different kind of fruit. (We love the classic strawberry banana combo!)
Number of Servings: 1

Ingredients

    1/2 cup 1% Milk
1/2 cup Lowfat 1% Cottage Cheese
4-8 packets of Splenda (or sweeten to taste w/ your choice of sweeteners)
1/2 tsp. Vanilla or Almond extract (optional)
2 cups (300 grams) Strawberries, frozen, unsweetened

Tips

Do not add the frozen fruit until cottage cheese is blended smooth.

Directions

Place the milk, cottage cheese, sweetener and extract in blender and blend until completely smooth and all lumps are gone (30 seconds). NOTE: DO NOT ADD FROZEN FRUIT UNTIL COTTAGE CHEESE IS BLENDED SMOOTH.

Then add frozen strawberries (or frozen fruit of choice) a few at a time, blending in-between each addition until all are added and shake is smooth.

This is HUGE- large enough to share with 2 people (120 calories each)- but drinking the entire shake myself can serve as a very filling meal.

Try it with frozen blueberries, frozen berries or frozen peaches.

I will tyry this BUT NOT with splenda. Use something that is NOT harmful like stevia - 3/16/10

I have been doing similar shake for years -- I HATE the texture of cottage cheese, but get the benefit this way. My recipe calls for 2/3 C. cottage cheese, 1/3 C. yogurt, 1/2 C. berries, and crystal light (I use fruit juice or non-fat milk). One of my breakfast staples!! - 6/12/09

Try adding vanilla protein powder, or just a plain splash of vanilla essence. Plain youghurt or a bit of sour cream for a more authentic cheesecake flavour. Its all up to your personal taste buds. - 4/2/09

Just made this today. I used 1/2 c low fat vanilla soymilk instead of the 1% milk and decreased the cottage cheese to 1/3 c since I'm not a huge fan. I also included 1T flaxseed. Yum!!! Definitely tastes like cheesecake, and I couldn't taste the cottage cheese. Will make again! - 1/17/10

I just tried this with blueberries and it was AWESOME! But, maybe everything is better with blueberries? :-) I also subbed almond milk for the 1%, Stevia for sweetener, almond flavoring, and one scoop of protein powder. This is definitely a favorite!!! - 2/16/10

This was pretty good. I wasn't sure about the cottage cheese (although I do love it with strawberries). But this actually tasted like strawberry cheesecake. I used fresh strawberries because it's what I had and added some ice. Used it as a meal replacement for lunch. Will definitely make again - 3/22/10

This was very good! I saved a quarter of the shake and froze it in a small tupperware container. Makes a delicious ice cream!
Update: I had 1/2 cup of ice cream tonight instead of the frozen strawberry shake and found the ice cream...not as satisfying! Am I becoming addicted? :)

Very good and versatile recipe. I used Almond Breeze Unsweetened Original since it was in the fridge; added extra vanilla, and 1/3 cup cottage cheese. Will definitely make this again and with other fruit. Pineapple is next for me! Thanks! - 3/5/10

I thought it was refreshing and fantastic - my husband did too (he scraped the bottom of his glass) and he is always skeptical of smoothies and "twig and berries" healthy items like cottage cheese (which he hates). - 1/19/10

Great recipe, tastes great! I added a little bit of lowfat vanilla yoghurt instead of the splenda and extract. The serving is huge, I ate half of it for breakfast and the other half for lunch. Very filling, too! - 12/3/09

An awesome and filling shake - great for after a workout. I echo some other reviewers thoughts on using Splenda - I just can't stomach it. I used 3 packages of stevia and found it was plenty sweet, although next time I'd probably just go with a spoonful of honey and avoid fake-sweet altogether. - 4/28/11

I originally rated this a 1 star cuz I thought it was gross. But I decided to try it again. I think the key is not overusing the sweetener (I used Stevia so it was naturally sweetened) and making sure you blend the milk and cottage cheese first. I will keep experimenting on this one... - 4/3/09

I didn't like it. Sorry... I'm not a cottage cheese fan by far, and it of course had the overwhelming taste. I tried it because the author said friend who also didn't like it still liked the shake. For added fiber, I used Splenda with Fiber for those who need a fiber boost it could work for them. - 9/1/08

Let me start by saying I hate cottage cheese. However, I love this shake! it Tastes great and kept me full .I used vanilla almond milk and I cut back on the strawberries, and added half of a banana instead to help cover the cottage cheese taste. Used a drop of strawberry drink mix for sweetner. - 4/11/14

4-6 packs of splenda, my goodness. That is not healthy. And for the stevia fans please check to see if it is fairly clean or horribly processed like Stevia. It does sound good, I am going to try with a touch of honey. We do not need to have everything we eat to be over sweetened. - 4/30/14

Very easy to make, I love easy. Had this for desert. Used unsweetened almond milk, stevia, & fresh strawberries. I will be using this for breakfast and post work out snacks. I love the use of the cottage cheese this way, as I don't like cottage cheese much at all, especially low fat. Very Good! - 4/8/14

Genius! I used skim milk instead of the 1% and used Truvia (stevia) instead of the splenda. I didn't measure the strawberries because they were frozen together, so I think I added more than the 2 cups. I just kept adding milk until I got the consistency that I wanted. LOVE IT! - 5/13/13

Okay, I am not a fan of cottage cheese. The shake was not bad. I won't say it was like eating a piece of cheesecake. The taste for me was similar to the taste of a slimfast or protein shake. - 4/9/13

If your strawberries are ripe enough, you don't need any Splenda or sugar. Use fat-free plain Greek yogurt instead - same amt of protein, much less salt, you don't need sweetener to offset the salty taste of the cottage cheese. Another option - use 1/2 banana & 1 cup strawberries. - 8/8/19
