    2-1/4 cup wheat flour
    1 tsp baking soda
    1/2 tsp salt

    1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
    1/2 cup (unsweetened) applesauce
    3/4 cup sugar
    3/4 cup packed brown sugar
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    2 large eggs
    2 cups (12 oz bag) chocolate chips


Preheat oven to 375*.

Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. In a large mixing bowl, combine butter, applesauce, and sugars. Beat in vanilla and eggs. Add flour, a little at a time, and mix together until well-blended. Stir in chocolate chips. Spoon onto a cookie sheet (about 2 tbsp per cookie) and bake for 8-10 minutes.

Makes about 3-1/2 dozen, 3" cookies; 1 cookie per serving.
