Ingredients

    3 slices bacon
    1 lb. beef stew meat
    1/4 c. all purpose flour
    1/2 c. chopped onion
    1 c. chopped carrot
    2 whole cloves
    4 peppercorns
    2 bay leaves
    1 can beef consomme
    1/2 c. red wine

Directions

Cook bacon in large dutch oven, remove and drain. Put flour in a plastic bag, add beef and shake to coat, pour into dutch oven and cook until browned. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Cover and place in oven set to 300, cook for 2 1/2 hours. Check half way through cooking to make sure there is enough liquid, add more beef broth if too dry. Serve over egg noodles or spaetzle.

    Incredible!
    This is similar to a recipe I found decades ago in a Greek cookbook. I use more carrots and onions and skip the flour for dredging. But it's the best stew recipe I've found. I was pleased to see that someone had posted it. - 2/25/20
