Ingredients

Biscuits:
2 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1 1/2 Tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 package dry yeast, dissolved in 2 1/2 Tablespoons lukewarm water
1 cup buttermilk (at room temperature)
Icing:
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 pound powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 8 ounce package cream cheese ( can use low fat or fat free)
Tips
These biscuits are good with fruit, such as blueberries, strawberries, or other type muffin fruits. You can also use a regular cinnamon roll glaze on the top rather than the cream cheese icing.
Directions
Biscuits:
Sift flour and sugar together and cut in shortening. Add cinnamon. Add soda and dissolved yeast to buttermilk. Add buttermilk mixture to flour mixture. Beat until smooth. Turn out onto a well floured surface. Knead lightly. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter. Bake 10 to 15 minutes at 450 degrees or until lightly browned. Remove from oven and cover with icing.
Icing:
Cream butter, cream cheese, and vanilla together until smooth. Add powdered sugar slowly a little at a time until all is incorporated. Mix until smooth. Spread on biscuits.
