Introduction
My father in law started us on this recipe for sloppy joes and I've never looked back. It is good stuff! This recipe can be adapted for a slow cooker if you need it to be. Ingredients
-
1 lb extra lean ground beef
1/2 medium yellow onion (chopped)
1 16.5 oz can Progresso Reduced Sodium Chicken Gumbo Soup
1/2 cup ketchup
1 cup favorite BBQ sauce (Famous Dave's Sweet and Zesty used in the Nutritional Info)
Tips
The longer its allowed to simmer the better it's going to taste. I've let it go for over 6 hours on the stove before. The last step can be done in a crock pot for as long as you need to (eg start it in the morning before work on low).
Directions
Brown the beef and add pepper to taste. Do not add salt!
Add the onion to the browned beef.
Add the chicken gumbo soup. If expanding the recipe remember 1 can of soup per lb of beef used.
Add the ketchup and BBQ sauce to taste. Quite honestly I've never measured these...I've always just squirted in as much as I wanted that day!
Let the mixture simmer as long as you have time.
Serving Size: Makes 6, 1/2 cup servings
