Onions, raw, 1 medium ,Celery, raw, 1 stalk, Carrots, raw, 1 large ,all chopped
Garlic, 6 cloves minced,
Butter, salted, 4 tbsp,Olive Oil, 3 tbsp
Beef consomme, 1 can (10.5 oz), prepared
Red Wine, 8 fl oz ,
Canned Tomatoes, 1 can (drained)
1 can tomato sauce
Oregano, ground, 1 tbsp
Pepper, red 1 tbsp
Milk, nonfat, 1 cup
1 lb ground sirloin(ask your butcher to do this if not available)
whole wheat pasta (enough for 8 servings)
Directions
heat butter and olive oil until "frothy" add onion, celery carrot and garlic cook until onions are translucent.
add ground sirloin.Cook until no longer pink.
raise the heat and add the consomme and the wine.Cook until the wine and consomme are mostly evaporated.
turn heat down and add the oregano and pepper flakes.Add salt and pepper to taste.Let cook approx.20 min. add tomatoes and sauce bring to a boil.turn down and let simmer. for 2 hours stirring occasionally.
let sit a few minutes while boiling pasta.
add the cup of milk before serving over pasta.
