Ingredients
-
4 c. luke warm water
2 Tbsp yeast
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 large egg
1/4 c. oil
1 Tbsp salt
9-10 c. white flour
Tips
Warm place could be an oven with a pan of hot water at the floor.
When ready to bake, put a pan of ice cubes in the bottom of the oven while the bread is baking so the bread stays soft and does not crumble.
Directions
1. Heat the water to luke warm temperature.
2. Dissolve the yeast and sugar in the water. Allow 10 minutes to foam.
3. Add egg, oil, and salt, plus 1/2 the flour.
4. Begin mixing in a 6 quart Kitchenaid mixer adding the additional flour 1/2 c. at a time until mixture is of a good dough consistency.
5. Place dough in a greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover. Let rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in bulk.
6. Punch it down and repeat rising instructions from number 5.
7. Divide into 4 loaf pans. Allow to rise in a warm place.
8. When the dough has risen to be about an inch above the pan, cut a shallow slit down the vertical center of the bread.
9. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes or until golden brown.
10. Remove from pans immediately and cool on wire racks.
11. Brush with melted butter while still warm.
