Ingredients

    1.5 cups sugar
    1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
    1 cup margarine or butter, softened
    2 tablespoons water
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 egg
    1 cup all purpose or unbleached flour
    1 tsp. bk. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    3 cups rolled oats
    6 0z. pkg. (1 cup) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

Heat oven to 350. In large bowl, beat sugar, cocoa & butter until light & fluffy. Add water, vanilla & egg; blend well. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Stir in flour, bk. sod & salt; mix well. Stir in rolled oats and chocolate chips. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 for 9-11 minutes or until set. DO NOT OVERBAKE. Cool 1 min.; remove from cookies sheets. Store in tightly covered container.
