Ingredients

1/2 pounds lentils
1 onion
1 Bay Leaf
1 tsp Thyme
10 peppercorn
5 cups boiling water
1/4 tsp salt
dash pepper
1 Tblsp margarine
1 Tblsp flour
1/4 cup ketchup
2 Tblsp Basil (or to taste)
Directions
Wash lentils; drain.
Pour the lentils into a large kettle and add chopped onions, bay leaf, thyme, and peppercorns. Add boiling water to cover. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat to a simmer, cover and cook for 30 minutes.
Remove the bay leaf and peppercorns. Drain, reserving the liquid, then add salt & pepper.
Mix the cooked lentils with onions. Pour into greased baking dish. Preheat oven to 350*F.
Melt margarine in a saucepan, add flour and stir until smooth. Gradually add 1 cup of the reserved liquid and stir until slightly thickened. Add the ketchup and basil. Pour in with the lentils and gently mix together. Bake for 40 minutes covered.
