Ingredients

1 Lb Ground Turkey- (I used Butterballs 91/9)
2- 28oz cans of Crushed Tomato- Tradition uses whole
tomato but we like it thick.
    3 fresh garlic cloves chopped
    2 tbsp. fresh chopped basil
    1-2 tbsp of Honey
    1 tsp of salt
    1 tsp of Black Pepper
1/4 tsp. of crushed red pepper
    1 tsp. of oregano
    1 cup chopped mushroom

Tips

I only used 91/9 ground turkey for the flavor, but you can use 99% to get fewer calories. You may also use regular sugar instead of honey. But honey is used often in italian dishes and in our family.
You may also reduce the amount of every ingredient to make a smaller pot, but this is great for freezing and using in future dishes such as Pasta, Baked ziti, lasagna, pizza, dipping sauce, etc.

Directions

Heat oil in a large pot on med-high and add garlic. Sauté until just aromatic about 10-15 seconds and add tomatoes. Do not burn the garlic or it will make your sauce bitter.
cook about 10 minutes and add herbs, honey, salt & peppers.
Take a separate pan and rub with a paper towel dabbed in olive oil to just coat the surface. Heat mushrooms on med-high and stir until softened and add
ground turkey. Cook until no longer pink and add to the sauce. Keep the sauce on med-low and covered stirring frequently for about 45 minutes to an hour. Longer if you want it to be the best.
