Ingredients
-
*Ground Beef 93% Lean, 16 oz (remove)
*Hunt's Tomato Sauce, no salt added, 2.75 cup (remove)
Tomato Paste, 0.5 cup (remove)
White Rice, long grain, 6 cup (remove)
Onions, raw, 1 medium (2-1/2" dia) (remove)
Green Peppers (bell peppers), 1 cup, chopped (remove)
Salt, 1 tsp (remove)
Pepper, black, .5 tsp (remove)
Garlic, 2 cloves (remove)
1 TBSP chili powder
1/2 tsp. celery salt
You can cram in more veggies if you want -- diced carrot or corn other camouflaged vegetables if your family won't eat them otherwise (or you won't. :D)
Ground lamb, chicken, or turkey is also good in this recipe.
Tips
Sprinkle with shredded parmesan if you like. Or any cheese. Just watch the calories.
Directions
I usually sauté the beef with the chopped onions and bell pepper, cooking until the beef is cooked through. Then I stir in sauce and spices. Dump in rice when it's done. I like to simmer it covered on the stove in a big dutch oven, or you can also bake it on low. It saturates the rice well with the flavors. Maybe do that for half an hour (or not -- you can also just stir it all together and eat it immediately).
