Ingredients

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/2 t baking powder
1/2 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
4 T sugar
1 large egg
1 1/2 c lowfat buttermilk poured up at the beginning and left in a container on the counter while you combine the dry ingredients
1/3 c melted unsalted butter

Whisk together the flour, leavening agents, salt, and sugar.
In a separate bowl whisk together the egg, butter, and buttermilk.
Mix the wet and dry ingredients until just combined (you know the drill - it'll be a little lumpy).
Use about a cup of batter for each waffle, and cook according to your waffle iron's instructions.
