Introduction

Ingredients

    1 fryer chicken, cut into 8 pieces
    1 ½ lbs smoked sausage, cut into 3” pieces
    4 large red potatoes, quartered (about 1½ lbs)
    2 medium onions, sliced tulip style
    1 can (28 oz) sauerkraut
    1 cup chicken broth
    4 slices bacon chopped in ½” pieces
    1 tsp caraway seeds
    2 bay leaves
    ½ cup flour

Directions

Use the large crockpot. Open the can of sauerkraut and distribute in the crockpot. Add the sliced onion and mix with the sauerkraut. Sprinkle with the caraway seeds. Add the cup of chicken broth. Add the 2 bay leaves. Distribute the potatoes evenly over the sauerkraut.

Add the bacon pieces to a medium skillet. Increase the heat to medium-high. Add the flour to a plastic bag and flour the chicken pieces. Brown the chicken pieces on both sides in the bacon grease; remove and add to the crock pot on top of the potatoes. Add the bacon pieces and the bacon grease to the crock pot. Arrange the smoked sausage on top of everything.

Cook for 6 hours on low heat.

Serve with green vegetable, salad and dinner rolls.
