Ingredients

1/4 cup cocoa, unsweetened dry powder
    1/4 cup white flour
    6 tsp powdered sugar substitute
    2 tsp instant coffee powder
    2 cups skim milk
    1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
    5 egg whites
    1/2 tsp cream of tartar

Directions

In 2 qt. pan, combine cocoa, flour, sweetener, and instant coffee. Gradually stir in skim milk till smooth.

Cook over medium heat about 5 minutes, stirring constantly till thickens and boils; cook and stir 1 minute longer.

Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour into large heat resistant bowl; cover surface with plastic wrap and refrigerate about 45 minutes or until cold.

When cold, beat with wire whisk till smooth. Set aside. In medium bowl with electric mixer at high speed, beat egg whites and cream of tartar just until soft peaks form. Immediately stir a third into the cocoa mixture. Using a rubber spatula, fold in the remaining egg whites.

Spoon mousse into 6 custard cups. Refrigerate up to one hour.

Can be served with a few sliced strawberries, citron, and whipped cream. (Calories and nutritional info not included, so will need to be added to accurately count them.)

I don't know if I made it wrong either but I did not like it at all. It was very bitter (and I like bitter chocolate) and not very mousse like. - 1/12/09

Sorry to hear that the chocolate mousse didn´t work for you. I have never had trouble with this recipe and anyone who´s tasted it here. Maybe ingredients vary in different places.

I don't know if I did something wrong, but it really came out horrible. It was too bitter and it didn't give that chocolate feeling we all know and love. I would prefer a tiny piece of chocolate over this. - 6/10/08

My chocolate mousse turns out perfect and tasty every time. Is it possible you have skipped one of the steps?

Wow, this was so easy and quite amazing...I thought there wouldn't be room for all of it in the bowl! The taste was heavenly, I think the coffee in it really did the trick! - 4/8/08
